Since 1951 the family business EDEM “Manousaki” produces and standardizes top quality fresh Cretan citrus fruits, such as orange, tangerine, grapefruit, lemon as well as extra virgin olive oil. The last few years our business has expanded with great success in the cultivation of Cretan avocado.

A truly GREEN business
Our crops include several acres of authentic citrus trees over 150 years old, but also modern plantations of high-density planting with the aim of a drastic reduction in water use, greater absorption of carbon dioxide and the increase of biodiversity. All production is done with sustainable practices which are certified and constantly improving.
In a way similar to the great enthusiasm we show every day to ensure the high quality of our products, we have adapted the most modern and advanced technologies in the processing of our products. We are the only packaging plant in Greece that does not use ANY water during the cleaning and sorting process, in this way we manage to save more than 1.200 litres of water every day and over 7 tons of fuel per year.
Dry cleaning and polishing of our fresh organic fruits is conducted by modern machines, while we work with state-of-the-art electronic calibrators and we have at our disposal a robotic carton forming machine, so that all our packaging is fully recyclable and produced inside the unit. This saves time and eliminates pollutants.
All the lamps in our production unit are LED type, of great energy saving. Our factory motors are inverter to minimize energy consumption, contributing to a further reduction in carbon dioxide emissions. Also, the electricity we use comes from the “green grid”, from renewable energy sources.

Study of moisture and soil percentages for non-use of water and installation of new estates. A basic condition for the installation of new estates is the study and analysis of elements such as very high rates of humidity and sunshine so that we use almost no water even in our Avocados.
The existing estates are in a privileged position, just below the foothills of the White Mountains. The area is characterized by intense biodiversity, many and frequent rainfalls throughout the year resulting in the minimization of technical watering on the few dry days of summer (truly green). An excellent micro-climate that results in the determining role of these delicious, quality authentic products that we produce.
